Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, referred to by Amnesty International as "the voice of Gaza’s decimated health sector," was dedicated to keeping the last major health facility in northern Gaza operational. However, on December 27, 2024, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) raided and closed the hospital, apprehending Dr. Abu Safiya in the process. His efforts to provide essential healthcare amidst the ongoing crisis highlight the challenges faced by medical professionals in conflict zones.
